Introducing VECTUS PRT and its unique features

PRT(Personal Rapid Transit)

VECTUS PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) brings what has been a transportation solution of the future to a proven and safe solution of today. It is a viable option for urban transportation with potential for higher access and services at a lower cost than commonly transport modes, while avoiding traffic problems such as congestion, accidents and pollution.

  • On-demand service
On-demand service, where a driverless vehicle is waiting at each station for passengers to depart, is one of the unique advantages of VECTUS PRT in contrast to other forms of scheduled route services offered by existing public transportation systems, where passengers normally wait for the vehicles to arrive.
  • Non-stop travel
Non-stop travel is possible since the vehicle proceeds directly to the destination without stopping on the way. Off-line stations, where boarding and alighting are conducted with passing vehicles not being hindered or slowed down along their route, can maintain flow and capacity on the main line. Off-line stations are sized travel demand which can vary location to location.
  • Small vehicles
Considering the average travel group size (93% of all trips are in groups of 3 or less in the US), the VECTUS vehicle size has been designed to have a seating capacity of 3 to 6. With low-weight vehicles, the guideway can be made slim and less expensive in comparison to other people-mover systems. Larger vehicles are possible for a bigger travel group and freight vehicles can allow increased revenue during off-peak hours.
  • Slim and light guideway
Exclusive-use guideways transport passengers with minimal disturbance to its surroundings and offers tight integration with urban buildings, streets, and utilities. Guideways can be at-grade, elevated or in tunnels, however, since tunnels are expensive and guideways at-grade would create barriers, VECTUS PRT guideways are, in most cases, elevated. VECTUS PRT guideways also provide high safety and reliability with no moving parts in the track and holding the vehicles captive on the track.
  • Short headways
Despite the small scale, VECTUS PRT vehicles offer high transport capacity because they can run with short headways, typically 2 to 5 seconds. Generally, VECTUS PRT can offer half the travel time for passengers compared to bus and LRT (Light Rail Transit) services with similar line capacity at a lower operating cost.
  • Scalable network
VECTUS PRT provides a scalable network, and supports distributed demand and access to existing line-haul systems such as commuter train, metro, bus, and LRT. VECTUS PRT can evolve from local circulation and distribution systems to a full regional network.

The combined effect of all these unique features of VECTUS PRT is a better value for money in terms of capital investment and operation. The optimized revenue-matching operations of vehicles as well as lower cost for infrastructure and operation makes the VECTUS PRT business case attractive to city/traffic planners, real estate developers, and system operators.
